Author To Speak In Sheldon About WWII Home Front Effort

Sheldon, Iowa — You can learn about the Home Front in World War II with an author who’s coming to Sheldon this week.

The Sheldon Public Library will host the event. Nicole Morgan, director of the library tells us about it.

Morgan tells us that Eckers is an author, historian and public speaker who has studied our nation’s military history from his childhood. She says his focus is on those who have struggled so hard to secure our liberties. She says his passion is sharing what he has learned. Eckers has written seven books and speaks around the country on topics surrounding our military heritage. His newest project is a novel, released in June 2017, entitled Five For Freedom; a story of a young war correspondent searching for his four high school basketball teammates. All are serving in different military branches during WWII, scattered around the world.

She says he’ll also have some books on display.

Morgan says Eckers’ presentation on “World War II – The Home Front” focuses on the personal and nationwide fight against a common enemy through “resource rationing, recycling, scientific and industrial innovation, and financial contributions made by all of us.”

Eckers says that from elementary students to the senior citizens, all Americans had a part to play in the defeat of those who would strip away our freedoms. Knitting, sewing, driving less, collecting milkweed pods, saving fats from cooking, eating less sugar; the list is nearly endless.

No registration is required, and the program is free. Again, it’s Thursday night, May 10th at 6:30 p.m.
