Alvord, Iowa — The Alvord Fire Department extinguished a fire on Saturday, June 3, 2017 near Alvord.
According to Alvord Fire Chief Shawn Bosler, the Alvord Fire Department was paged about 5:15 PM. The fire was reported to be at 2254 200th Street, one mile west, one mile north, and a half a mile west of Alvord. He says when they got there they found that the fire was a burn pit fire that had gotten out of control and started burning the grass around the pit. Bosler says no injuries were reported, and the damage was minimal.
He says they used about 500 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about 35 minutes.
