Sioux Center, Iowa — An annual event in Sioux Center, the Annual Ag Summit, coming up later this month, is going to feature a thought-provoking talk on “The New Food Movement”.

Sioux Center Chamber Director Barb Den Herder says the event is put on by the Sioux Center Chamber and Dordt College.

She says this year it will feature Kevin Murphy, owner and founder of Food-Chain Communications. Murphy’s topic will be, “Thou Shall Not Kill-What’s the Christian Response to the New Food Movement?”

She says Murphy will visit with farmers as to how to respond to the movement and tell their story, and consumers who attend can learn how to better navigate the food system. She says one of the main goals is to allign what consumers want with what farmers produce.

Dale Vanden Berg, chairman of the chamber’s agriculture committee says that fewer and fewer people are tied directly to agriculture in some way.

The event will be on Wednesday, March 22nd from 8:15 a.m. to 12 noon on the campus of Dordt College in Sioux Center.

Tickets are $15, which includes breakfast, presentations by Kevin Murphy and a panel discussion.

You are asked to purchase tickets by Thursday, March 16 by calling the chamber at 712-722-3457 or emailing admin@siouxcenterchamber.com.

Den Herder says the event is made possible through the partnership of Dordt College, the Chamber Ag Committee and many sponsors.
