Larchwood, Iowa — About 50 tri-state area non-profits and related projects will share $150,000 in funding from the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation after a grant award ceremony this Thursday night, April 30th.
According to officials with the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation, the annual Mini Grant Award Ceremony will take place this Thursday night, starting with hors d’ourves at 6:00 p.m. and the award ceremony at 7:00 p.m.
They tell us the grant recipients who applied don’t know that their project has received the funds until the grants are announced at the ceremony. Each grant given will be approximately $3000.
The grants are given in four categories: Community Development & Beautification, Economic Development, Education & Arts, and Human & Social Needs.
Foundation officials tell us the foundation is the nonprofit gaming license holder for Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort near Larchwood. Iowa law requires that the foundation is funded through a portion of the casino’s gaming revenue, and that money is used to fund charitable and civic needs in and outside of their communities. The Lyon County Riverboat Foundation was established in June 2011. In 2026, the foundation is anticipating distributing over $3 million, and since its inception, it has distributed over $36 million to charitable and civic organizations.
