Another Fake Bill Shows Up In Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — More fake money has been found in Sheldon, according to the Sheldon Police Department.

Officer Dave Dykstra says a local business discovered the counterfeit bill when doing their nightly bank deposit. Unfortunately, it was not discovered until then, so he says they have no idea where the funny money came from.

Dykstra says the bill had some Chinese characters printed in red on the back of the bill. He says it feels like paper, not the linen that genuine bills are printed on. Dykstra says they will be reporting the fake bill to the United States Treasury Department.

Officer Dykstra has some advice, especially for those who work with large denomination bills. He says you should be on the lookout for counterfeit bills. Make sure to check the bills before accepting large amounts. Dykstra says businesses that accept cash should probably get some of those counterfeit-detector pens that allow you to test the bill as it is being accepted to see if the bill is printed on linen paper like a genuine bill.

Dykstra says clerks and others should be especially careful with large denomination bills to limit loss if a counterfeit bill is discovered.
