Another sTEP Program Through Saturday

Iowa State Patrol CarNorthwest Iowa — The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, along with the Iowa State Patrol, and other Iowa law enforcement agencies have announced a Saint Patrick’s Day special Traffic Enforcement Program, or sTEP.  This sTEP period began Wednesday, March 15th, and is running through Saturday, March 18th.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz says this sTEP will be concentrating on impaired drivers.

Trooper Kurtz says sTEP isn’t a “gotcha” type operation, but more educational.  He says that’s why motorists are given advance warning.

He says that while this sTEP period will concentrate primarily on impaired drivers, officers will be looking for other violations, as well.

Last year more than 400 people lost their lives on Iowa’s roadways, and Kurtz says the primary focus of the sTEP campaigns is to reduce that number going forward.
