April A Bit Cooler, Dryer Than Normal

Sheldon, Iowa — April was a bit cooler and dryer than normal, according to weather information recorded by Sheldon’s official National Weather Service Weather Observer.

The warmest temperature recorded during the month of April was 77 degrees, which was recorded on April 24th. Just three other April days this year saw the mercury top the 70 degree mark; 72 on April 29th and 73 on April 23rd.

Our average high temperature for the month was 52. That’s some 6 degrees cooler than the average April high of 58, and 5 degrees cooler than April 2021’s average high.

The coolest temperature recorded in April, 2022 was 10 degrees, which was recorded on April 10th. Low’s dipped below 20 degrees on four other occasions, as well; 19 degrees was recorded on April 9th, 16th, 17th and 19th.

Our average low temperature for April was 28. That’s 5 degrees cooler than April of last year, and 7 degrees cooler than the average April low.

We were below normal on precipitation in April, as well. We received just 1.6-inches of moisture during the month of April, that’s 0.86-inches below the normal of 2.46. Total snowfall for the month amounted to 1.5-inches, which is 0.4-inches below the normal of 1.9-inches.
