Archer Man Faces Felony, Misdemeanor, Sex-Related Charges

Spirit Lake, Iowa — An Archer man faces a felony charge, and a misdemeanor charge in Dickinson County, following an investigation into an alleged incident that took place on January 17th.

Court records indicate that 20-year old Dylan Jay Petersen of Archer is charged with one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a Class C Felony.  According to the Criminal Complaint, Petersen faces the charge for allegedly enticing, coercing, soliciting, or knowingly permiting, or otherwise attempting to cause a minor to engage in a prohibited sexual act, or in the simulation of a prohibited sexual act and has reason to know, or intend that the act or simulated act may be photographed or filmed.

In addition, court records indicate that Dickinson County authorities have charged Petersen with Telephone Dissemination of Obscene Material to Minors, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. Dickinson County authorities say Petersen knowingly disseminated obscene material, by the use of a telephone, to a minor.

According to court records, the charges against Petersen were filed late last week, with Peterson being taken into custody Friday, February 23rd. Online court records indicate he was released after a bail bondsman put up his $10-thousand bail on Monday, February 26th.

Online court records indicate that Petersen is scheduled for a Preliminary Hearing in the case at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, March 6th.
