Statewide Iowa — The November 8th General Election is approaching. If you plan to vote in the election, you have to be registered.
County auditors remind you that the voter registration deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016. The auditors’ offices around the area are generally open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Sioux County Auditor’s office has advised us that they will also be open on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 8:00 to 5:00 p.m. for voter registration and absentee voting.
You may also register to vote on line by going to the Secretary of States web site https://sos.iowa.gov/ and clicking on “Register to Vote”.
Iowa does have voting day voter registration, but the auditors’ offices advise that the process takes time and resources, so they encourage you to register at your auditor’s office or online before the October 29th deadline.
You can also vote absentee or in person at your auditor’s office. Absentee ballots have to be requested on a special form, and unless you vote at the auditor’s office, need to be mailed. The auditors specify that you cannot come to the auditor’s office to pick up a ballot for someone else, or take your ballot home with you. Absentee voting starts on Thursday, September 29th, and must be completed by Monday, November 7th.
If you have any questions concerning voter registration or absentee voting, call your county auditor’s office.
