Back Way To Sioux Falls By Larchwood Under Construction Again, Hopefully Done By Early November

Larchwood, Iowa — If you take the back way to Sioux Falls from Highway 9 — your trip has been interrupted occasionally the past month or so by road construction. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Many people call it “the back way to Sioux Falls,” but the official name of the road is Lyon County Road A-18. It, along with some Lincoln County, South Dakota roads can take you to the southern part of Sioux Falls. But the road has needed some work, and has been getting it the past few weeks.

When the project started, we talked to Lyon County Engineer Daryl Albertson, and he told us what was going to be done.

And, the asphalt overlay part of that is what’s going on now. He tells us the road remains open, but there will be delays.

Albertson says the project involves the entirety of the road, from the state line to Larchwood, but only part of the road is being done at a time. He says it will hopefully be done by early November.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the county (the east side), Albertson says they’re trying to build up the base on their gravel roads.

He says they’ve been busy so they’re a little late putting gravel on for this year, but they’ll do another third in the spring.
