Cancer Society Daffodil Fundraiser Starts Wednesday

Sheldon, Iowa — With the bitterly cold temps, now is a great time to start thinking about spring and making a donation to help save lives through the O’Brien County chapter of the American Cancer Society.

O’Brien County American Cancer Society spokesperson Cindy Runger says that the daffodil is one of the first flowers of spring and is a symbol of hope. Proceeds from the annual sale of daffodils go toward the O’Brien County Relay For Life, which this year will be held in Sheldon on Tuesday, June 4.

Funds raised go toward education and research, lodging for families of cancer patients seeking treatment, and more.

Daffodils are available in three different ways, according to Runger. She says you can purchase a bunch of daffodils for $10.00, a bunch and a vase for $15.00, or a 4-inch potted dainty for $10.00.

Daffodil orders will be taken starting this Wednesday and running through February 19th. To place your order, you can call Runger at (712) 541-7122, Loretta Vander Linden at (712) 324-2273, Hair Headquarters at (712) 324-3310, Impressions at (712) 324-5388, or stop at the Sheldon Public Library. All orders need to be pre-paid.

The daffodils that you buy will be available for pickup on Tuesday, March 19th from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Cook’s Cafe in Sheldon.

Runger tells us that by giving daffodils to friends, family members, and even cancer patients, you are “giving hope because together, we are helping people stay well, helping people get well, finding cures, and fighting back.”
