Candidate Petitions, Absentee Ballot Request Forms Available For 2nd Ward Council Election

Sheldon, Iowa — Residents of Sheldon’s 2nd Ward will go to the polls on June 8th to select their new representative on the Sheldon City Council, or vote by absentee ballot.

City Manager Sam Kooiker says any 2nd Ward resident interested in serving on the City Council can take out candidate petitions to gather the necessary signatures.

(As above) “We have petitions available here at City Hall. The County Auditor, Barb Rohwer, has petitions available there. You need at least ten signatures from residents of the 2nd Ward, and they need to be turned in by May 14th.”

Only residents of Sheldon’s 2nd Ward are eligible to vote in the June 8th special election, which will be held at the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center. The 2nd Ward is bordered by Western Avenue on the west and Washington Avenue on the east, and by 8th Street on the south and the Sheldon city limits on the north.

Kooiker says the winner of the June 8th Special Election will only serve out the remainder of former Councilman Shawn Broesder’s unexpired term, which runs until January 1st  of next year.

(As above) “Then if the occupant of the seat wants to run again, they’d have to pull petitions in August, I believe, for the November election.”

IF you prefer to vote absentee, you can download the Absentee Ballot Request Form below. The completed Ballot Request Form must be returned to the O’Brien County Auditor’s Office by 5:00 pm, Monday May 24th.
