Ocheyedan, Iowa — The bird flu is affecting many people in northwest Iowa – not just poultry farmers.
We talked to the Cooperative Elevator Association’s Rob Jacobs about the impact avian influenza is having on the grain market. He says the longer it goes on, the more it’s going to affect the economy.
We asked Jacobs if they had lost any business from the layer operation near Harris that was struck by the bird flu. He says it hasn’t affected them directly, but there will be some effect.
Jacobs says it’s important to remember the ripple effect that this will have on the greater economy as well.
We’ll have more on how the bird flu is affecting northwest Iowa in future newscasts on KIWA.
