Charges Dismissed In Two Felony Cases

Le Mars, Iowa — Charges have been dropped in the case of a rural Akron woman accused of killing her husband with a shotgun earlier this month, as well as in a felony theft case against the former Westfield City Clerk.

In the first case, 33-year old Becky Hebert had been charged with 2nd Degree Murder in the death of her husband, Jeremy. Plymouth County Sheriff Mike Van Otterloo earlier had said that the couple had been arguing prior to the shooting.

Yesterday (Monday, October 30th), Plymouth County Attorney Darin Raymond filed a motion with the court asking for dismissal of the charge against Becky Hebert. Judge John D. Ackerman ruled to dismiss the charges, without prejudice.

In the second cacse, which was also dismissed without prejudice, former Westfield City Clerk Angela Sorensen had been charged with 2nd Degree Theft, which is a Class “D” Felony. That charge stemmed from the investigation into financial irregularities in the city of Westfield. Plymouth County Attorney Darin Raymond filed the motion to dismiss in Plymouth County District Court yesterday (Monday), and the motion was granted.

The motions to dismiss charges without prejudice means the the charges can be reinstated at a later time, and gives officials more time to complete investigations into the alleged crimes.
