Corporate Officials: New Hull Casey’s Will Be Nearly 60 Percent Larger

Hull, Iowa — The timeline is still a bit up in the air, but Casey’s officials are releasing a little information about the new convenience store in Hull that will replace the one that was totaled in a fire in September.

Casey’s spokesperson Kendrew Panyanouvong at Casey’s corporate headquarters in Ankeny tells us that in addition to being brand new, the new Hull Casey’s will be nearly 60 percent larger than the old Casey’s.

The Casey’s store that was the victim of the fire was one of the old-style Casey’s locations with a single unisex restroom behind the checkout stand. Panyanouvong tells us the old building was roughly 1,920 square feet. He says the new building is planned to be approximately 3,070 square feet. That’s a footprint that’s bigger by over eleven hundred square feet. He says the old store had four fueling positions, and the new store is planned to have six.

The Casey’s General Store in Hull was severely damaged in a fire on Wednesday morning, September 28, 2022. According to Ron Hoksbergen who was the Hull Fire Chief at the time, there were workers in the building at the time of the fire but everyone got out OK and no injuries were reported. He says the fire appeared to have started in the store room behind the kitchen. The Iowa State Fire Marshal’s office was contacted, and they completed an investigation. The official cause went down as “undetermined,” but they said the fire appeared to be unintentional.

Panyanouvong says, “Architectural plans… are still under review with the city. We intend to start construction once fully permitted and bidding is complete.” Therefore, he tells us they don’t yet have a firm completion date.
