Sheldon, Iowa — Wednesday’s Sheldon City Council Meeting will be a tad unusual.
According to Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker, Mayor Geels, Councilman Brad Hindt, Councilman Wayne Barahona and Councilman Shawn Broesder will attend the meeting. Also, Todd Uhl and Angie Beckman will be there. Kooiker says all will be 6 feet apart. Jared Johnson and Kevin Miller plan to attend also. Others joining by phone will be Councilman Pete Hamill and Councilman Tom Eggers, as will Kooiker, City Attorney Micah Schreurs. Kooiker says the three council members who will be physically present are doing so in case we have technical issues.
While no members of the public will be able to attend the meeting in person, due to Governor Reynolds ban on groups of more than ten, citizens will be able to dial in from their home or office through Go-To-Meeting. To join the online meeting, Kooiker says you can go to https://zoom.us/j/730387950 Kooiker stressed that it is a j in this link, not an i. The Meeting ID is 730 387 950. Or you can join by phone at 253-215-8272 or 301-715-8592.

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets this Wednesday March 18th, they will set the dates for a consultation and a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the city’s Urban Renewal Plan. That amendment won’t change the renewal area, but would make it possible to accommodate several goals including street reconstruction, additional commercial and industrial development, and the facilitation of redevelopment of nuisance and blighted properties.
The council is also expected to approve the hiring of Lyle Frohwein as Street Superintendent beginning March 19th. Frohwein is one of six to apply for the position formerly held by Brice Mosier who passed away in December.
In other business, the council will consider a request to authorize a grant application to help fund the reconstruction of Western Avenue from 16th Street to Highway 18. This is the same type of grant received by the city to make improvements on 16th Street, Country Club Road and East 9th Street.
Wednesday’s meeting will begin at 4:30 in Council Chambers on the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
