Council To Take Up Councilman Resignation At Wednesday’s Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets in regular session Wednesday afternoon one of their agenda items will be a discussion of the resignation of a City Council member.

Second Ward council member Shawn Broesder resigned from his council position earlier this month after being arrested for 1st Offense Domestic Abuse Assault. At Wednesday’s meeting, the Council is expected to accept Broesder’s resignation, as well as determine if the vacant council seat should be filled by appointing someone to serve or holding a special election. Officials say one 2nd Ward resident has already expressed an interest in filling that seat.

In other news, the Council has set a public hearing for Wednesday’s meeting on the 2021-2022 City Budget. They’ll also hear a request from the Sheldon Chamber and Development Corporation for the reallocation of funds previously earmarked for expenses involved in Sheldon’s overnight host status for Iowa’s Ride 2020. Since Sheldon has pulled out of that event, the SCDC is asking that those City funds be allocated elsewhere.

Sheldon Police Officer Todd Wood will be sworn in as the 2nd Sergeant on the Sheldon Police Department during Wednesday’s meeting. Wood had been scheduled to be sworn in two weeks ago, at the same time David Dykstra was promoted to Sergeant, but Wood was unable to attend that meeting.

Wednesday’s meeting will be called to order at 4:30 and will be held in Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center. The meeting is open to the public, in-person, but will also be be available virtually, through the Zoom platform. To access the Zoom meeting, CLICK HERE.
