Sheldon, Iowa – The Sheldon Crossroads Pavilion Board met in regular session on Wednesday, August 9th at 6:00 p.m. at the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center. In attendance were Brittany Behrendsen, Pete Hamill, Kevin Cain, Lora Vande Brake, Marv Van Riesen, Sean Hutchison, Peter Wagner, and Trisha Meendering.
Following the approval of the minutes from last month’s meeting, the Board discussed the Donor Event, which will be taking place on Thursday, September 21st. Invitations will be going out in the next week to those who contributed to the construction of the event center, the City Council members, RDG, Hoogendoorn Construction, as well as to those who have made monetary contributions or “purchased” a key for the grand piano.
Meendering let the Board know that she has been approached by individuals wanting to know if there is anything specific the Event Center is still in need of by way of contributions. Businesses, groups, or individuals who would like to make a contribution to the event center may do so at the Sheldon City Office and can contact Behrendsen for a list of needs. One way still open to contribute is with the purchase of piano keys, which may be “bought” for $125 each. There were 88 at the start of the fundraiser, and keys are still available by contacting the city office at 712-324-4651 or the Event Center at 712-631-4336.
Behrendsen reported that even though the Event Center doesn’t officially open until September 2nd, she has given numerous tours already. There are two weddings and 13 other events as of now scheduled for the remainder of 2017, and there are eight wedding booked for 2018 to date. The Board discussed in previous meetings the desire to draw a variety of events to the Center and there has been considerable thought in regards to what that might look like. Ideas involve speaker series, bridal fairs, accessibility shows and vendor fairs, as well as monthly gospel music groups.
With the opening getting closer, the Pavilion is looking at getting staff lined up for upcoming events, particularly bartenders. More information regarding these staffing needs can be found on their Facebook page, Crossroads Pavilion Event Center.
The bar menu and pricing were agreed upon and will run competitively with surrounding event centers. Behrendsen reported that the website for the Event Center should be up and running shortly, and there will be a link to that on the City of Sheldon’s website for ease of access for the public. The next meeting for the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center is set for Wednesday, September 13th, 2017.
