Crossroads Pavilion Hot Topics – Preferred Vendors and Blackout Dates

Sheldon, Iowa – The Crossroads Pavilion Board met on Wednesday, June 14th at 6:00 p.m. at the Sheldon Community Services Center.

The meeting opened with public discussion and revolved around preferred vendors at the Event Center. Two brides, along with family members, expressed concern about booking caterers/DJs for their wedding receptions who were not on the preferred vendor list, which currently includes five caterers. There was much discussion as to whether a non-preferred vendor could pay an additional fee to use the facility, if there was an application that could be submitted to become a preferred vendor, or if concessions could be made for individuals/groups who booked Crossroads Pavilion before the preferred lists were compiled. It was determined that a special meeting will be held within the next week so decisions can be made and guidelines set for these issues.

Among the topics approved were the electrical upgrades to allow for outdoor events and some additional indoor upgrades all totaling approximately $35,000, the bar point of sale system which will allow for credit cards to be used, and a dual camera/burglar alarm security system, to be provided by Super Hi-Tech and Midwest Alarm, respectively.

It was up for debate as to whether the rooms should be named after wildflowers or historical Sheldon names and the historical names won out. The Great Room will be known as the Prairie Queen Mill Room. The side rooms will carry the names of the William Smith O’Brien Room and the Israel Sheldon Room. And the board room will be named after the founder of the Sheldon Public Library and bear the name of the Addie Sherwood Sleeper Room. Plaques outside the rooms will carry descriptions and a brief history of each name. Also decided was the new logo, which was unanimously approved by the board. Further discussion will take place regarding whether a donor plaque or board will be hung in the facility.

Fire alarm maintenance was agreed upon, but the issue of having a fire monitoring service was tabled for further discussion at the next regular meeting. Also tabled for the time being was extending the concrete on the side of the building for easier access with larger vehicles/trailers.

Event center hours were set at Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with Saturday and Monday by appointment only. Blackout dates will be Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Easter. There will be three different package options available for renters depending on their individual needs for events. Nonprofit rates were confirmed at $650 for the use of entire building, $500 for the great room and other three rooms, and $200 for the use of the two side rooms.
