December 7th O’Brien County Supervisor Special Election Has One Candidate On Ballot

O’Brien County, Iowa — Voters in O’Brien County will be going to the polls on December 7th to select a replacement for the District 1 County Supervisor seat.

That seat became vacant last month when 1st District Supervisor Sherri Bootsma resigned because she was moving out of O’Brien County.

Following some deliberation, the County Committee, which is comprised of O’Brien County Auditor Barb Rohwer, O’Brien County Recorder Susan Smith and O’Brien County Treasurer Missy Hatterman, opted to call for a special election to fill the final three years of Bootsma’s unexpired term, rather than appoint a replacement.

Both the O’Brien County Democrat and Republican parties held County Conventions to select candidates to run in the special election. After those conventions, the O’Brien County Republicans brought forward the name of Timothy Overmire as their candidate, while the O’Brien County Democrats failed to nominate a candidate. As a result, Overmire’s name will be the only name on the ballot for the December 7th special election.

O’Brien County Supervisor District 1 is comprised of a large part of eastern and northeastern O’Brien County, and while the candidate must reside in that District to be eligible, voters from throughout O’Brien County will vote in the December special election.
