Sheldon, Iowa — As Sheldon High School students arrive for their first day of classes in the new school year, they’ll be greeted by a graphic reminder of the dangers of texting while driving.

The Iowa State Patrol says troopers have written more than 1-thousand distracted driving tickets in the first year of the new distracted driving law. As a result, it’s obvious that texting while driving is still a major issue on Iowa roadways.

In an effort to drive home the dangers of texting while driving, KIWA Radio, along with Morgan Collision and Tire, have placed on the lawn in front of Sheldon High School and adjacent to Highway 18, a wrecked car bearing a banner reminding people not to text and drive.

The display was set up as a reminder for the Sheldon High students, as well as the motoring public passing on Highway 18 through town.
