DOT: Highway 18 Resurfacing Project To Begin In April

Iowa DOT new logo 2014Sheldon, Iowa — Motorists traveling between Sheldon and Sanborn will need to allow themselves extra time for the trip beginning in late April due to a resurfacing project on Highway 18, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.

DOT Engineer Steve McElmeel says the project will begin at the 18 & 60 junction, and continue east.

McElmeel says the projected start date for the $6-million plus project is April 17th.

He says this summer’s Highway 18 resurfacing project is actually two projects that have been combined into one.

We asked McElmeel if, since the Sheldon to Sanborn resurfacing is on tap for this year, does that mean the Sanborn to Hartley segment is planned for the 2018 construction season.

Again, the bridge resurfacing will probably be completed as the first segment of the project, and traffic will be controlled at that location by a traffic signal.  When the highway resurfacing begins, traffic will be guided through the construction area by a pilot car.
