Expert: Northwest Iowa Crops Looking Good For The Most Part

Northwest Iowa — While some parts of northwest Iowa have seen crop issues due to flooding earlier in the season, as a whole, crops seem to be coming along well.

That’s from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Agronomist Joel De Jong.


De Jong talks a little about the maturity of the corn crop.


He says beans are about the same.


De Jong says moisture levels are adequate almost everywhere in northwest Iowa at this time. But he says they feel for those people in southern Iowa that are having to deal with drought conditions, some for the second year in a row. He says, he hears that the Ottumwa area is 20 inches below normal if you figure the last two years.
