Fire Damage Averted By Orange City Fire Department

Orange City Fire1Orange City, Iowa — The Orange City Fire Department kept a waterway fire from becoming an issue on Wednesday, April 12.

According to Orange City Fire Chief Denny Vander Wel, the Orange City Fire Department was called to a grass fire about 1:40 in the afternoon near Highway 10 and Ibex Avenue.

Vander Wel says someone was burning a waterway unattended. He says firefighters were called to the same location last year. The chief says that the green spring grass limited the spread of the fire and firefighters were able to put out the fire with minimal effort. He reports that maybe an acre was burned.

Chief Vander Wel says no injuries were reported, the fire department used minimal water to put out the fire and were only on scene for maybe 15 minutes.

Vander Well encourages people who are going to burn waterways and the like to call it in to the sheriff’s office beforehand, and then stay with the fire in case it should get out of hand.
