Paullina, Iowa– A home was damaged in a fire on Thursday, October 20, 2016 in Paullina.
According to Paullina Fire Chief Brent Noteboom, about 10:20 AM, the Paullina Fire Department was called to the report of fire in a home in the 100 Block of South Mickley Street. He says no one is living there at this time and no one was in the house.
The chief says someone had been varnishing the floor, and rags used in that process had been left in the path of direct sunlight. He says he believes the rags combusted in heat of the sun.
Noteboom says no injuries were reported.
Chief Noteboom reports that there was moderate damage to the floor of the home. He says the fire did burn a hole through the floor.
He says they used less than 750 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about an hour.
