Fire Department Called To Wrong Address

Sheldon Fire New Engine 1Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company was misdirected to the call of a car fire early Sunday evening.

About 6:10 Sunday evening Sheldon Firefighters were dispatched to a car fire at the intersection of 300th Street and Marsh Avenue, or 2 miles north of Northwest Iowa Community College.  When firefighters arrived on the scene they not only found no fire, but no car, either.  Sheldon Fire Chief Jerry Meyer tells KIWA that his crews located the car three miles south of the location originally reported, at 330th Street and Marsh Avenue, which is one mile south of NCC.

Meyer says there was no actual fire, but he says there was oil on the engine that apparently produced smoke, causing the driver to think there was a fire under the hood.

No injuries or damage was reported in the incident.
