Maurice, Iowa — June is Dairy Month. And as they have done for a number of years, dairy producers in the area will provide tours of a dairy farm in northwest Iowa.
Scott Schroeder, who is the Executive Director of the Western Iowa Dairy Alliance, says that each tour is a little different. He tells us about this year’s event.
The open house is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12. The dairy is actually located in rural Maurice, but you don’t have to find it. Because of parking issues, Schroeder says they will have people park at the Terrace View Event Center in Sioux Center and they’ll be bussed to the dairy. Dairy products will be served at the event, including cheese sandwiches and milk.
Iowa State University Extension Dairy Specialist Fred Hall says June has been Dairy Month for over 50 years.
In addition to the National Dairy Month Open House, Iowa Dairy Farmers are excited to welcome Governor Kim Reynolds to J&S Dairy to declare June as Dairy Month for the state of Iowa. Governor Reynolds will be signing the proclamation at approximately 11 a.m. at J&S Dairy.
