Groundswell of Voting Helps Northwest Iowa Non-Profit Win $25,000

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center-based nonprofit that helps people make and stick to a household financial plan has received a grant to help people do just that.

Center for Financial Education officials say that voters from Northwest Iowa and across the nation helped the organization win $25,000 to further its mission. Out of 2,000 applications, the Center for Financial Education says they were first selected as one of 200 finalists for a national competition for the State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant. A 10-day popular vote campaign in August selected the top 40 causes who will each receive a grant of $25,000 from the State Farm Neighborhood Assist program.

The non-profit hopes to use the grant funds to perform community outreach and individual coaching to help people manage their money better. The grant project, entitled “Personal Finances that Bless You, Not Stress You” will allow the organization to impact at least 20 new individuals and families in Northwest Iowa.

The organization’s Executive Director, Tricia Driesen tells us, “We are so grateful to our community members for their overwhelming voting support.” She says that winning this grant is a great way to kick off their 20th anniversary of serving in Northwest Iowa.

State Farm Neighborhood Assist is a philanthropic program that empowers communities to identify issues in their neighborhoods and has committed one million dollars to this grant nationwide.

Over 4.4 million votes were cast nationwide in this year’s program.

Center for Financial Education has five offices in northwest Iowa and has served over 250 clients from 44 zip codes in the last year.
