Halloween Festivities For Kids Throughout KIWA Listening Area

Northwest Iowa — More and more corn is being harvested. Many trees are in beautiful color, but more and more of their leaves are falling every day. And pumpkins and other fall decorations are everywhere. It could only mean one thing. Soon little ghosts and goblins will be ringing your doorbell and shouting, “Trick or treat!”

Many communities in northwest Iowa have special events planned to celebrate — weather permitting that is — you might need a winter coat over that costume.

In Sheldon, the kids are invited to put on their costumes and trick-or-treat at downtown businesses from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. While that’s going on, the house-to-house — or as the Sheldon Chamber likes to put it, “citywide” trick-or-treating is suggested from 5 to 7 p.m. And, in the middle of that, the kids are invited to trick-or-treat at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care from 6 to 7 p.m.

In Sibley, their business trick-or-treating will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Click here for the list of businesses participating. Afterwards, they invite kids to a Trunk-or-Treat at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church parking lot at 704 Poplar Drive. That runs from 5 to 7 p.m.

In Orange City, their Business Trick-Or-Treat runs from noon until the businesses close. They also remind you of the Halloween Photo Booth in Stadscentrum downtown.

In Rock Rapids, the festivities get underway at 4 p.m. at Sunshine Foods’ parking lot with the annual Halloween Parade. Kids in costume start by visiting merchants who aren’t located on the parade route and have come to the parking lot to hand out candy. After that, it’s a tour of the downtown businesses, where many merchants will be on the sidewalk to hand out candy and maybe visit for a moment. The Rock Rapids Chamber organizes the event. They don’t suggest when kids should do their residential trick-or-treating, but most do it after the Halloween Parade.

In Hull, you’re invited to the Agropur cheese facility, where they will be handing out candy throughout their office from 3 to 5 p.m. There’s also trick-or-treating at Aspen Heights from 4 to 6 p.m.

And in Rock Valley, they will have Candy in the Valley. The City of Rock Valley will have their inflatables blown up all day. Sunshine will have snacks in the afternoon. Candy will be downtown from 3:30 until 5:00 p.m. You can also check out the Our Saviors Lutheran’s Trunk or Treat, and Trinity Christian Reformed Church is hosting the Hallelujah Party from 5-6:30 in the church Fellowship Hall.
