Sheldon Iowa — A food-drive is being hosted in Sheldon, on Saturday, October, 17th, and all donations will go to Upper Des Moines Opportunity (UDMO) in Primghar.
April Schaeffer, along with her daughter Maddie Schaeffer and several local businesses and organizations, is putting this food drive together to help give residents something fun to do on a Saturday afternoon, but also because they saw a need in the community and wanted to help out.
(as said) “We wanted to come up with a way to collect items to go to Upper Des Moines to help stock their food pantry. So we just thought about what we could do that would be fun and interactive that would have a big impact, and hopefully, we can fill a six-by-twelve foot trailer with the food and toiletry items that they need.”
The trailer comes courtesy of Top Notch Rentals, and all of the donations will be housed there to be taken to UDMO. The event itself consists of an indoor adult-orientated event called “Sip and Dip.”
(as said) “So Creative Spirits will be on-site,” explains Schaeffer, “And there’s a really cool fall picture that we would paint, and so the cost of that is $25 just to cover the cost of the supplies and then you also bring $10 of food or toiletry items.”
It should be known that registration is required for individuals to take part in “Sip and Dip”, and there is also a 40-person limit to ensure everyone can social distance. For children, there are several outdoor activities.
(as said) Schaeffer says, “There will be pumpkin painting, rock painting, paper marbling, and t-shirt tie-dyeing.”
The children section only requires a food donation be brought for participation, and there is no limit on how many children can participate. However, parents are still asked to register so that event organizers know how much of each material to get. The materials are donated by Top Notch Stitching, Thrivent Financial, and Girl Scout Troup 1031.
If residents are unable to attend or would just like to donate, they’ll have a drive-up donation placed by the Top Notch rental trailer. Just drive up and drop off your food or toiletry items between 1 and 4 pm on the day of the event.
