Hot Dog Day Draws Huge Crowd

Sheldon, Iowa — The crowds were big, and the weather perfect for Wednesday’s Sheldon Hot Dog Day.

Several Sheldon businesses served up hot dogs with a variety of toppings as a thank you to their customers. In addition, the SCDC served watermelon for dessert after folks got their fill of the hot dogs.

The dogs were going out at a furious pace, with KIWA giving out 200 hot dogs in a 45-minute period.

There were nine entries in the Top Dog Contest, with Lewis Family Drug claiming the Top Dog Award for this year. The award is decided upon by a group of judges who visit each of the competitors businesses and sample their hot dogs, then deciding who has the top dog.

Hot Dog Day had been an annual tradition in Sheldon, which was discontinued a few years ago, but resurrected for 2018. Judging from the crowds and the smiling faces at this year’s event, we suspect it will become an annual tradition again.
