House Republicans Select Wills Again As Speaker Pro Tem

Des Moines, Iowa — The GOP members of the Iowa House of Representatives have chosen one of the legislators from our area to be re-elected to the post of Speaker Pro Tem of the Iowa House.

Rep. John Wills of Spirit Lake represents Lyon and Osceola counties and the northern two-thirds of Dickinson County in the State House.

Prior to being elected Speaker Pro Tem, Wills served as House Majority Whip and an Assistant House Leader. He was first elected to the Iowa House in 2014. Wills began serving as Speaker Pro Tem in January of this year.

Wills says, “I am honored and humbled to be elected by my peers to continue serving as the Speaker Pro Tem. I would also like to thank my constituents for the honor of representing them in the Iowa House and in my caucus.”

Wills says that House Republicans are “committed to addressing our state’s workforce challenges, reigniting Iowa’s economy, and getting folks back to work, school, and normal life as quickly as possible.”

The 2021 legislative session begins Monday, January 11. House Republicans will open the 89th General Assembly with a strong majority of 59 members, including 14 new members.
