Johnson Responds To Call For His Resignation

johnson, davidNorthwest Iowa — Yesterday we told you about a Spirit Lake man who is calling on State Senator David Johnson, of Ocheyedan, to resign from the Iowa Senate.  The gentleman said he plans to seek the District 1 Senate seat held by Johnson once he does so.

We talked to Senator Johnson today, and he said he is not going to resign from his senatorial seat.  The Senator says he will continue to work as an Independent in the Iowa Senate, until his seat is up for reelection in 2018.

You may recall that Johnson left the Republican party earlier this year over his disgust with some comments made by Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump.  Johnson says today he is still appalled by the Republican party and their candidate, and will continue to serve in the Iowa Senate as an Independent.

Johnson said that he will not be voting for Trump in the Presidential election this year, but neither will he be voting for Hillary Clinton.
