June, 2018 Warmer, MUCH Wetter Than Normal

Sheldon, Iowa — The month of June, 2018 saw temperatures a bit above normal, with precipitation WAY above what we’d expect for a normal June.

According to the Weather Facts as recorded by the National Weather Service Official Observer for Sheldon, the warmest days of the month were recorded June 6th and 7th, when the high was recorded at 92-degrees. That contrasts with the coolest high temperature recorded for the month, which came on June 21st, when the mercury climbed to just 65-degrees.

When it comes to low temperatures during June, the coldest low came on June 4th, when the temperature dipped to 47-degrees. The warmest low temperature recorded in Sheldon in June was recorded on both June 16th and 17th, when the temperature dropped to just 74-degrees.

June, 2018 was slightly warmer than June of last year. The average high was the same for each year, 82-degrees, while the average low was 6-degrees warmer this June than last, being recorded at 62-degrees, compared to last June’s average low of 56-degrees.

June, 2018’s average high was 3-degrees above the normal average of 79, with this year’s June average low of 62, was some 7-degrees warmer than the normal low of 55-degrees.

The biggest variance from normal came in the category of precipitation. In a normal June, Sheldon receives an average of 3.91-inches of rain. This June shattered that figure, with Sheldon receiving 11.59-inches of rain during the month, which is 11.83-inches HIGHER than normal June precipitation.
