16th Street Project Set To Get Underway

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon’s 16th Street will be getting a major overhaul this summer, with resurfacing , some full-depth patching, and improved drainage all part of that project.

Sheldon Public Works Director Todd Uhl tells KIWA that, as of right now, the project is scheduled to start this coming Monday, July 9th.

We asked Uhl when the paving portion of the project would get underway.

Uhl says the timetable for the project will, of course, be dependant on the weather.

The entire project is projected to take about 8-weeks to complete.

In May, the Sheldon City Council approved a contract with OMG Midwest, Inc. of Omaha, who had submitted the low bid on the project. Their bid of just under $615-thousand, was more than 17-percent below the engineer’s estimate. About 60-percent of the construction cost will be covered by a D.O.T. grant.

The project calls for 16th Street from Iselin Avenue to Washington Avenue to be re-surfaced with some full-depth patching where necessary. The drainage on the south side is to be improved and some trees will be removed.
