Kopel On Running For City Council

Sheldon, Iowa – Next Tuesday, June 8th, voters in Sheldon’s 2nd Ward will elect a new representative to the Sheldon City Council. Three candidates are vying for the Council seat that became vacant with the resignation of former Councilman Shawn Broesder.

Today we’re talking to candidate Madeline Kopel, who tells us a little about her background.

We asked Kopel why she decided to seek the 2nd Ward Council seat.

She talks about what she’d like to see happen if she’s elected.

Since Kopel announced her intention to run, the topic of her social media has been brought up frequently, particularly controversial posts disparaging law enforcement. We asked Kopel to respond to the criticism.

We asked her, based on some of her social media posts, if she is in favor of defunding the police.

Kopel says she’s excited about Tuesday’s election. Excited that there are names on the ballot in this election.

Tuesday’s special election is a three-way race. Kopel will be facing Sandy Johnson and Ken Snyder. Voting will be limited to residents of Sheldon’s 2nd Ward, and will be held at the Crossroads Pavilion, with polls open from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm.
