Kurtz On Back-To-School Traffic Safety

Northwest Iowa — Back-To-School is just around the corner, and with it will come kids walking, and riding their bikes, to and from school.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz reminds motorists to watch out for the kids as they head back to school, because too often, they’re not watching out for you.

And if you’re driving in rural areas, Trooper Kurtz reminds you to beware of intersections with standing corn.

Parents, please take a few minutes and remind your students to watch out for traffic.  If they’re walking to and from school, make sure they know to ONLY cross the street at crosswalks, and to ALWAYS be on the lookout for cars.  If they’re riding their bikes, remind them to ride on the right side of the road, and to beware of motor vehicles.  And if your child is driving themself to school, remind them to watch for pedestrians and bicycles, and to leave their cell phone alone while driving.
