Kurtz: Police Out In Force This Weekend Keeping Motorists Safe

Northwest Iowa — Law enforcement officers will be out in force this weekend in an effort to keep the motoring public safe.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz tells KIWA that officers will be enforcing traffic laws, with an emphasis on impaired drivers, and distracted drivers. He says, however, that officers will be enforcing all traffic laws, across the board.

Kurtz says although not wearing your seatbelt doesn’t increase the likelihood of a crash, it does increase the likelihood of injury or death.

Kurtz reminds drivers to slow down, put down the phone, fasten your seatbelt, drive defensively, and choose a designated driver if your Labor Day celebration includes alcohol.

Officers will be out in force this weekend as part of the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau sTEP, or Special Traffic Enforcement Project. Kurtz says officers will be out in marked, as well as unmarked police cars.
