Kurtz: Springtime Brings New Traffic Hazards

Kurtz, Vincent 495 Clarinda, IANorthwest Iowa — The recent weather we’ve been experiencing here in northwest Iowa reminds us that it’s spring in Iowa, and with spring comes some new traffic safety issues.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz talks about the two biggest springtime traffic issues.

Trooper Kurtz says one of the biggest challenges for a motorist driving behind a farm implement is the difference in speed between the two.

In addition to planting season and the farm implements it brings to our highways and byways, Kurtz says there is another category of vehicles taking advantage of the nice weather to hit the roads.

He says that, in order to make it home safely, motorcyclists and bicyclists need to be the most defensive drivers on the road.

Trooper Kurtz made his comments during his monthly appearance on the KIWA Morning Show Thursday morning.
