Kurtz: Traffic Fatalities In Iowa YTD Lower Than Last Year, Still Too High

Kurtz, Vincent 495 Clarinda, IANorthwest Iowa — As we told you a few weeks ago, more than 400 people lost their lives on Iowa roadways in 2016, which marks a huge increase over the previous year.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz appeared on the KIWA Morning Show with Wayne & Aaron Thursday morning, and says that, through the first two months of 2017, traffic fatalities in Iowa are down slightly from the same period a year ago.

Trooper Kurtz says driver error remains as the root cause in most of the fatal crashes in Iowa.

Kurtz defines “driver error” as such things as failing to buckle your seat belt, distracted driving including texting behind the wheel, and impaired driving.

He explained to listeners Thursday morning the difference between a “crash”, and an “accident”.

Trooper Vince Kurtz is a guest on the KIWA Morning Show with Wayne & Aaron the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 am, when he discusses a variety of traffic safety issues, and takes text questions from listeners.
