Man Mowing Ditch Dies In Accident Near Sutherland

Sutherland, Iowa — One man has died as the result of a farm accident near Sutherland on Wednesday.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that their communications center received a call about 6 p.m. of a farm accident at the intersection of 420th Street and Van Buren Avenue,
about four and a half miles north of Sutherland.

When Sheriff’s officers arrived at the scene they tell us they found a 4020 John Deere tractor upside down in the north ditch. The tractor had a bush mower mounted on the 3 point hitch. It was determined that 78-year-old Gary Lee Jungjohan had been mowing the north shoulder of 420th Street when the tractor he was operating rolled into the ditch on top of Jungjohan.

The O’Brien County Medical Examiner pronounced Jungjohan dead at the scene.

The Sutherland Ambulance Squad and a Paullina Police Officer also responded to the scene. The accident is being investigated by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
