Maurice Fire Department Called To Report Of Tractor Fire

Maurice, Iowa — The Maurice Fire Department was called out on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 to a field near Maurice.

According to Maurice Fire Chief Jeff Vander Weide, about 5:10 p.m., the Maurice Fire Department was called to the report of a tractor on fire near 5028 Hickory Avenue, two miles east and three and a quarter miles south of Maurice.

The chief says there had been a little fire but as they approached the scene, no flames were visible. He says they did find a hot tractor, however. He says he thinks some debris may have started smoldering and possibly caught flame. He says they cooled down the tractor with about 200 gallons of water.

Chief Vander Weide says that there was basically no damage to report, as the tractor was running again when they left. He says they had been applying manure at the time.

He says the fire department was on scene for about 20 minutes.
