MidAmerican: New Equipment Helped Crews Get Sheldon Power Back On Faster

Sheldon, Iowa — A power outage on Thursday evening left 800 Sheldon customers without power. And while crews were unable to find what caused the outage, ironically, they were able to discover that the problem no longer existed more quickly than they could have before.

MidAmerican Energy Company Spokesman Geoff Greenwood tells us about it.

But, Greenwood says had they not been able to use a piece of new technology, it may have taken longer to restore power, because they may have to have patroled a larger area.

He says the area without power covered a good portion of central Sheldon, south of Highway 18, west of Country Club Road and east of 7th Avenue.

Greenwood says while they don’t know exactly what caused the outage, they do have some pretty good guesses based on the weather conditions at the time.

Greenwood says it’s even possible that two lines briefly touched each other, which could also cause an outage.
