Sheldon, Iowa — Basically every year since the 1960s, teams of carpentry and electrical students at Northwest Iowa Community College build a new home that is then auctioned off to the general public. This year that auction is this Saturday, June 24th.
Ryan Cannoy is a carpentry instructor and the coordinator of the house project at NCC. He says he asked someone to look up the history of the house program, and he says the first house was sold in 1967.
He tells us about this year’s house.
He says it’s a very high-efficiency home, and it’s a little different this year.
Cannoy tells us that while most of the house is finished, the buyer will be responsible for some of the work.
Cannoy encourages prospective buyers to view the home in person and to check out details on the NCC web site. Again, the auction is this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.
(While the picture was taken before the siding was installed, the house does include siding.)
