Sheldon, Iowa — New opportunities for people who want or have a career in business are available now through Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.
Gretchen Bartelson, who is NCC’s Dean of the Center for Teaching & Learning says that it’s exciting to be able to offer this program to students eager to go to work.
Business Management, which is an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree will start in the spring semester (January 2017).
She says the Business Management program will prepare students to enter the workforce as a manager or supervisor trainee. Students acquire a background in basic business including accounting, budgeting, math and economics as well as practical supervisory skills. Areas of emphasis include: marketing, management supervision, small business management, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
Bartelson says NCC offered a Business Management program years ago, but this one is unique in the areas of emphasis that can be plugged into the program and the fact that it’s mostly available online so it is available to people who have a job and can’t attend regular classes.
She says you don’t have to take the full program either if you don’t need it.
She says potential jobs could include: Administrative Assistant, Business Manager, Human Resources Manager, Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations Manager, Merchandise Manager, Office Manager, Supervisor, or Entrepreneur.
Bartelson says the program is beginning in January of 2017. All classes are available online, but if you would like an on-campus experience, you can take a combination of online and on-campus classes as well. She says the program qualifies for financial aid. To find out more call 800-352-4907.
Incidentally, she also says that due to a Title III grant, NCC is going to be offering more programs such as this in the near future.
