O’Brien County Relay For Life To Honor Cancer Victims, Survivors

Sheldon, Iowa — The O’Brien County Relay for Life, an American Cancer Society event designed to raise money for cancer research, and care for cancer patients, is just over a week away.

The 2017 O’Brien County Relay for Life will bring together cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and loved ones from around northwest Iowa at the Lifelong Learning and Rec Center on the campus of Northwest Iowa Community College on Tuesday evening, June 13th.

Two of the often emotional events at the Relay for Life are tha Survivor’s Lap, and the Luminaria Ceremony,  Cindy Runger of O’Brien County Relay for Life talks about the Survivor’s Lap.

The O’Brien County Relay for Life events begin at 5:30 pm that day, and conclude with the Lumineria Ceremony at 9:00.

The Luminaria Ceremony is a time to honor those who have lost their battle with cancer, as well as those who are still fighting the battle, and those who have won.  Runger says luminaria should be purchased by this coming Wednesday, June 7th, and can be obtained by calling Loretta Vander Linden at 712-324-2273.
