October Cooler & Wetter Than Normal

Sheldon, Iowa — If you thought it felt like October this year was cooler and wetter than a normal October you were absolutely correct.

According to Sheldon official weather statistics the warmest temperature in October this year came on the 1st of the month when the temperature topped out at 89-degrees. The coldest temperature of the month came this past Thursday, October 31st, when the mercury dipped to 14-degrees.

The average high temperature for October 2019 was 54-degrees, which is 8-degrees below the normal average high for October of 62-degrees. Our average low for the month was 34-degrees, which is 4-degrees below the normal average low of 38. October temperatures were pretty much on par with October 2018, when the average high temperature was 54-degrees, and the average low was 33.

As for moisture, October saw 5.34-inches of moisture fall into the KIWA rain gauge. That compares to a normal October, when we see just 1.92-inches of moisture. So for October 2019 Sheldon’s precipitation was 3.42-inches ABOVE normal.
