October Weather Fairly Normal This Year

Sheldon, Iowa — Temperatures in northwest Iowa were slightly cooler, but still fairly normal, for October, 2017, according to the Official Weather Facts for Sheldon as compiled by KIWA.

The average October high temperature for 2017, as recorded in downtown Sheldon, was 61-degrees. That’s down just one degree from the normal average October high of 62-degrees. The average low temperature during October this year was 36-degrees, a mere two degrees below the normal high of 38.

This October’s average high and low temperature readings were both 3-degrees below those of 2016. Last year’s average October high was recorded at 64-degrees, with the average low recorded of 39.

The warmest high temperature during the month of October, 2017 was a tie between October 18th and October 21st, when the mercury topped out in Sheldon at 76-degrees. The coolest low temperature recorded for October was 25-degrees, which we reached on October 11th.

On the topic of precipitation, the records indicate that Sheldon received 5.12-inches of precipitation in October this year, that’s WAY above the normal monthly October precipitation of 1.92-inches.

Precipitation year-to-date for 2017, as of the end of October, is 29.65-inches. That’s 4.01-inches above the normal of 25.64.

And, as of the end of October, Sheldon has recorded just 0.2-inches of snow, which is 0.6 BELOW the normal of 0.8-inches of the fluffy white stuff.
