Orange City Man Charged With Felony Eluding

Orange City, Iowa — An Orange City man has been arrested on a felony eluding charge after a chase in Orange City last week.

According to the Orange City Police Department, 19-year-old Marsellus Dean of Orange City is accused of attempting to elude officers.

In his statement, the officer states that the arrest stemmed from a report of vehicles causing a disturbance in the Calvary Christian Reformed Church parking lot. The officer states that when law enforcement arrived, they activated emergency lights to make contact with the vehicles, and one of them took off at a high rate of speed, heading northbound on Juneau Avenue Southeast. Officers pursued the vehicle to the area of St. Paul Avenue and Second Street Southeast where Dean was taken into custody.

Dean was charged with eluding at 25 miles per hour or more above the speed limit, a class D felony. If convicted, Dean could face up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of operating without owner’s consent, two stop sign violations, speeding, and driving without a license.

He faces a preliminary hearing this Thursday, November 30th.

He was released from jail the next day after posting ten percent of a $5000 cash bond.
