Pesticide Training Available For Farmers In Orange City, Sheldon

Orange City, Iowa — If you’re a farmer who applies pesticides, you need to keep current on your training. An opportunity to do that is coming up in Orange City.

Continuing Instruction for Private Pesticide Applicators will be held on February 6 at the Sioux County Extension Office lower level meeting room in Orange City. The instruction will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. and those interested in receiving continuing education credit must be in their seats at that time. This instruction certifies an individual to apply restricted-use chemicals.

Joel De Jong, an extension field agronomist in northwest Iowa, says the sessions target farmers who apply restricted-use pesticides to their own fields.

De Jong says the sessions will cover a variety of information that’s important to anyone who will come in contact with and use all kinds of pesticides.

He tells us it’s more than just how to apply chemicals safely.

The registration fee for the instruction is $20 and pre-registration is requested. If you want to attend, Extension officials say send your name, address, phone and certification numbers with a $20 check to the Sioux County Extension Office, 400 Central Avenue, NW, Suite 700, Orange City, IA 51041. Another training is scheduled for April 9, 7:00 p.m. at NCC, Building C in Sheldon. Call the Sioux County Extension Office at 712-737-4230 if you have questions.
